PROJECT OVERVIEW

About This Project

John Burns was contracted to remove and modify hydraulic gate systems at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant as part of a critical infrastructure upgrade. The project involved demolition of the existing hydraulic operators, accumulator assembly, associated piping, and electrical components for four TARP (Tunnel and Reservoir Plan) drop shaft gates. Maintaining a dry worksite in a confined space presented significant challenges, particularly given the age and condition of the existing gates. The team implemented a 24/7 dewatering operation to control the flow from the connecting sewer to TARP and ensure safe working conditions. Despite the unforeseen complexity of gate removal, JBCC successfully performed the necessary modifications and reinstalled the gates with minimal disruption to ongoing plant operations.
